Cost of Living and Student Services in Dublin

As a registered English Language Education (ELE) provider, we are committed to offering reliable, up-to-date, and transparent information on the full cost of studying and living in Dublin. This ensures that our students can prepare effectively for life in Ireland. Below is a detailed overview of the most common expenses students should consider before and during their stay:

If accommodation is not arranged through the school, students are responsible for securing their own housing. Dublin offers a variety of options to suit different needs and budgets:

  • Host Family: €180 – €250 per week (includes meals, utilities, and a supportive home environment)
  • Shared Apartment or House: €600 – €900 per month (excluding utilities such as electricity, gas, and internet)
  • Student Residence: €700 – €1,100 per month (varies depending on location, facilities, and room type)

We provide assistance and guidance to help you find safe and suitable accommodation before your arrival.

Grocery costs in Dublin depend on personal preferences, but on average students spend between €50 and €80 per week on food and household items. Major supermarket chains with affordable options include:

  • Tesco
  • Dunnes Stores
  • Lidl
  • Aldi
  • SuperValu

There are also plenty of cafes, takeaway outlets, and restaurants for dining out, with meals ranging from €8 to €15 in more affordable places.

Dublin’s public transport network is extensive and student-friendly. We recommend getting a Student Leap Card, which offers significant discounts on all transport types:

  • Dublin Bus: €1.00 – €2.50 per journey (with Leap Card)
  • Luas (tram): €1.00 – €2.50 per journey
  • DART (train): €2.00 – €4.50 depending on distance
  • Taxi: €8 – €20 for standard city journeys
  • Dublin Bikes: €35 annual subscription (first 30 minutes per ride are free)

Walking and cycling are also great ways to explore the city, especially in central areas.

Health insurance is mandatory for all international students studying in Ireland. We can help you purchase suitable coverage before your course starts.

Typical healthcare costs:

  • Doctor (GP) visit: €50 – €70 per consultation
  • Emergency hospital care: Available at public hospitals (fees may apply for non-EU/EEA students)
  • Private health insurance: Plans start from €120 per year, depending on provider and coverage

Some pharmacies offer free consultations or minor illness support services.

Students from outside the EU/EEA must comply with Irish immigration regulations. Fees include:

  • Visa application fee (if applicable): €60 – €100
  • GNIB/IRP registration fee (for stays over 90 days): €300
  • Additional documentation may be required (bank statements, proof of accommodation, insurance, etc.)

Our staff are available to guide you through the immigration process.

We strongly believe that learning continues outside the classroom. Our school runs a vibrant social and cultural programme designed to help you make new friends, practise English, and explore Irish culture.

Activities include:

  • Social events: €5 – €15 (e.g., pub nights, quizzes, cultural celebrations)
  • Day trips: €20 – €50 (e.g., Cliffs of Moher, Glendalough, Belfast, Galway)
  • Weekend tours: from €100 (includes transport and accommodation)

Participation is optional, but highly recommended!

  • Books and learning materials: Some included, others may cost €20 – €50
